About

Daniel J. Pederson, a nationally recognized expert in U.S. Savings Bonds, has worked closely with thousands of bond owners and financial professionals over the last thirty-five years. His experience with savings bonds began at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago-Detroit Branch where he was a supervisor of the Savings Bond Division from May of 1986 to March of 1990. In 1990 he left to start The Savings Bond Informer, Inc., a fee-based service that provides bond statements and consultations for bond owners and financial professionals.

It was the many calls from frustrated bond owners all over the country that prompted Dan to write the book, Savings Bonds: When to Hold, When to Fold and Everything In-between,  “Tell Me…. Help me…. How do I…?  When does this happen? How does that work?  Does it matter if I…?  Which form should I use to…? Doesn’t anybody know anything about U.S. Savings Bonds? It seems like I have called all over and every person gives me a different answer!” His research revealed that organizations that are perceived to be knowledgeable about savings bonds are often one of the greatest sources of misinformation. As a result, bond owners consistently make costly mistakes.  Investors collectively forfeit $150 million annually by cashing at the wrong time and currently hold more than $25 billion of bonds that have stopped earning interest.

In addition to distributing valuable information as a guest on numerous radio shows, he has been quoted in national publications such as the following: The Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, USA Today, Financial Planning News, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine, Bottom Line Personal, Modern Maturity, Money Magazine, and Ladies Home Journal.  TV appearances include CBS, PBS, FOX, CNN, CNBC and the Wall Street Journal Report.

Pederson conducts educational seminars on savings bonds for banks, financial professionals, corporations, and retirement groups throughout the United States.  He has served as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking and Cannon Financial Institute.  He holds a M.B.A. from Wayne State University and a B.S. from Taylor University.
